What could be better than living in the Lowcountry? How about working in it and as a Kayak guide. We are looking for someone to spotlight the coastal waters of Hilton Head, South Carolina by providing outstanding, educational and safe kayak tours. This position is responsible for all on-water and dock functions as well as assisting or leading other resort activities such as arts and crafts, bike rides, pool games, or informational talks as needed. The position requires strong customer service skills, on the water kayaking and/or boating experience, organizational skills, communication skills, water safety knowledge, physical ability to lift kayaks, bend, twist, and rise from a squatting position unassisted and work in varied weather conditions and temperatures. Interest in area marine life, area conservation, fishing, and lifeguarding experience a plus.

The primary responsibilities of the Recreation Kayak Guide are:

  • Oversee the operation of the Kayak and Fishing programs and equipment
  • Maintain and clean all fishing, kayaking, and outdoor sporting equipment
  • Work in conjunction with other recreation and activities team members
  • Develop and implement programs focusing on the areas unique marine life, area conservation, naturalist programs, fishing and crabbing techniques and guided kayaking experiences.
  • Ensure all policies, procedures, and safety measures are followed for the dock and recreational programs and areas
  • Serve as the on-water guide for all kayaking program activities
  • Oversee the kayaking, fishing, crabbing and outdoor sport area equipment inventory
  • Have the ability to assist or lead in Resort programs and activities as needed, including but not limited to aqua fitness, bike rides, arts and crafts, children’s programs, pool games, cook-outs, and lead guided shuttle tours to local points of interest.
  • Report to the Director of Recreation and Activities
  • Keep and maintain records of equipment use, program participation and inventory use and needs
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Prior demonstrated experience working with recreational fishing or kayaking programs.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong paddling skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work week days and weekends, as well as overtime as needed.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong attention to detail.
